ummm.....

well beograd gig was ok
i dunno
i did my best
we were ok
the people were nice
but it never really took off
technical problems
etc
i drove the van to praha ha ha
only notable thing was a border guard
leering in to the van
so he says
you like peach juice huh?
as sees me drinking the peach nectar
which is plentiful n delicious up this way
you like peach juice?
but he made it sound very sinister
for miles afterwards im saying
so...you like peach juice...HUH?
slovakia is beautiful
but the roadside stops were all truly sausage parlours
got into prague last nite at 1 in morning
nice hotel
like a huge old house in suburbs
thats it
more tomorrow

today I gave back
the subaru I drove
I used to have dreams of
getting into the vehicle after someone else had been
driving
the steering wheel
would be above me on the roof
not on the dashboard
the seat would not adjust, I couldn't reach the pedals
this dream occurred with some frequency
over the years
at times
I resigned myself
to driving the way it was
other times my dreaming self
would become angry
tell myself
I'd do better on foot
get out of the drivers seat
run run run
always without shoes in dreams
feel the wet pavement beneath my feet
neither cold nor warm
knowing within the dream
no need to ever stop
never short of breath
the road would change in my view
as I viewed it
never do I look behind me
in those dreams
today I gave back
that car
the one I camped in
drove to the beach in
the one that had it's designated parking place
I handed over the keys
to an open hand
he said
my house is now haunted
my heart can't sleep there
he said
you'll die for for your freedom willingly
and I will in a way too
he's chosen
as have I
all u-turn signs
have a diagonal slash through them
all exits lit in green
he drove me to the rental place
said he'd pay for my car
get something silver and fast
and deliver yourself
north
something with good sound
nothing leather bound
he also said
when I told him
he knew all along
reading me and
that he knew my voice
in the sea of sound
and the void of faces
I thought
that tears would no longer fall
in the snow of petals
in the miracle spring
the warmth of the beacon light
that guides ships home
as the lighthouse comes into view
and my heart is so full
of something difficult to name
rare and beautiful to feel
it overflows
from my eyes
tonight
I will pick up my lionhearted mother
in a silver car
press the gas pedal with diamonds on the souls
of my shoes
kind JB
brought me a vegan chocochip cookie
A made me dinner
I feel very blessed
humble and ready
so grateful
to be brought here to this shimmering point
ready to drive
at top speed
bright into the night

Have an absolutely great gig tomorrow morning (our time) Nevets, and around a bit more sleep check out a bit of Praha ha ha. Futurum seem to be the best venue so far in promoting you on their website - very nice! but the bar inside looks like an old school room and it has numerous pillars blocking the view to the stage lookin at the scrolling 360' tour of the room. Stage looks small too, almost quaint.

I've got a "not Armageddon.. but close" gig in a couple of hours and be assured, the venue this end for me sux with a crap PA and one lousy farting monitor. dare I mention them on here.. but INXS shot their "Never Tear Us Apart" video in Praha ha ha. I've got a gut feelin Futurum might just be another blinder like Vienna + some jazz. Fingers Xd.
Have a good one! Cant wait to hear how it went.

so you do have it in you to make amends if you're fucking up.i thought you seemed out of tune to character assasinate all croatians after a couple of days and one gig in one place. i'm impressed with your ability to say sorry. awesome work. you're forgiven from me for that glitch of bigotry and hope that caper doesn't bless your pages ever again. but any more prejudices like that from someone of your calibre will not be tolerated.
it sounds like you are one tired and emotional rocker.

wer'e both getting better all the time.
no-one has the right to expect 'saintliness' from you.
you are not a guru(metal or otherwise).
you are however without doubt one of the shrewdest of observers.
the very air around you is charged at the moment, you all seem to be on an emotional roller-coaster ride.
in the next couple of weeks i know you are gonna do some of the best gigs you have EVER done.
all the signs are right.
just don't implode/explode before you get to london!
there's never been a band that have done what you guys have, average age:50 current status:most innovative, commited, vital rock band on planet.
all right, so as not to appear a total sico-phant, there are also a few other decent outfits out there.
but theyr'e few and far between!

i bet some slav guy from THAT gig
is at home/work/play right now, still trying to figure out what you guys have done to him.
well done men!

sk - thought of your fine band when I revisited the sublime one giant leap dvd of 2002 just to again see the kurt vonnegut (rip) interview in which he says - "music is, to me, proof of the existence of God. It is so extraordinarily full of magic and in tough times of my life I can listen to music and it makes such a difference" - in your case of course substitute listen with make - hope you get to that point a few more times in the tour - sorry to hear Belgrade didn't reach those heights - fond memories of 3 weeks there a few years back and meeting some beautiful people (as you do)

In a strange land, a different bed each night to lay your weary bones to rest. When we are out of our comfort zone our perspective on things is always going to be distorted. The nature of blog prose- we love to read it because of its immediacy and its intimacy. The drawback for you is that it is out there resonating before you have really had a chance to ponder what you really said. The detachment idea is something we are all trying to grasp. Old space rockers are allowed to stumble and create havoc. Your humility won my heart.

nice redaction in action for the Zagreb folk, hopefully you don't have to do that anymore... for what it's worth, the clips of Grind and Hounds of Love i saw were fucking awesome!!! you looked as if you may have even been enjoying yourself...

All the roadside stops are sausage shops. Steve Kilbey and MOrrissey both concur that "Meat Is Murder". As long as we have slaughterhouses and the hunting of animals, we will have wars and socipaths who kill 32 students who attend their US college. If you like great music and people who respect the lives of all creatures great and small, then you need to listen to the music and read the prose of Steve Kilbey. HE WILL ENLIGHTEN YOU ALL !

I wonder how someone goes about soliciting you to do a track on an album. I know 2 thirds of a Canadian band that was pretty big in Australia, that were handed a pretty crappy deal by their singer when he walked away after 15 years. They have moved on and are putting together a CD with some pretty cool guest singers some of which you may know personally. I suggested to one member your name because I thought you would just rock with these guys. Despite their success they are incredibly humble and down to earth gents, but kick it on stage and in the studio. Can you send me an email address of a contact they could follow up with. I really don't feel comfortable saying here who they are, but would rather they approach you either directly or through your management. My email address is

thanks and rock ero!!!!

Why can't one person express his reaction to an environment? We'll he can and here was the proof. But when one slings the mud upon a society which has been scorned by generations of Primative Violence, ignorance and mistrust then it becomes a problem for them, not us? Its a Fucking Sociological Assessment from a personalised perspective and that's the end of it? I don't think one needs to apologies for expressing their emotions regardless of the offensive/inoffensive nature of it? In effect it is true in a purely subjective manner? Look upon it as a fictionalised account from a niavely endorsed experimentalist?

Hi sk,

Greetings from OZ. Thanks for taking the time to write to us. Enjoying every word. Had a laugh about the hotel key. First time I got one of those plastic ones I complained because the air-conditioning wouldn't work (window glued shut.) I mean, if no-one tells you, how ya gonna know?

It's hard missing the fambley, but you'll be so busy the time will fly. No doubt, you and the bumper share a special bond. Methinks you've met before. She seems to remember you, the way she searches your eyes.

Have a gret rest of tour and good luck with the laundromats.

Re 8. 55 am poster:

You're absolutely right. A person should be free to express their perspective and impression on any environment. If steve talked about an "individual" or idiosyncrasies specific to a locality whether his assessment was positive or negative that would have been fair game. Hell, there are people and places I don't even like in Croatia. But when you start to characterise /satirise an entire nationality/ ethnic group as sinister etc you're crossing the line of what constitutes good grace, good taste or common decency i.e. ethics. If you still don't understand the gravity of the transgression try supplanting Steve's reference to "Croatian" for "Irish", "African-American”, "French", "Polish", "Mexican", "Gringo", "German", “Italian”, "Celt", "Magyar”,” Chinese”, “Scottish”, "Jew", "Oriental", "Norwegian" or “insert your own ethnicity here” in his blog. I doubt whether his post would have positively resonated with other fair-minded people on here, unless of course they were racist/bigoted to begin with. And of course, Steve's recent blog has found some fans among the anti-Croatian sympathisers like yourself for example. You probably would not think that “Primitive Violence” is a fair term for describing the UK/ Ireland conflicts; USA/ Iraq war; Argentina-Falkland Islands/ UK war; USA/ Afghanistan war; USA/ Chilean political subterfuge; The Netherlands-UK led South African apartheid; France’s sinking of NZ’s Greenpeace ‘Rainbow Warrior’; France’s testing of atomic bombs in the South Pacific etc etc etc. “Primitive Violence” is just a Balkan thing right? Gimme a break….Anyway, when does "self-defense" become "primitive violence"? How can any violence be anything but primitive?

Steve made a really bad faux pas (which is putting it mildly). He has acknowledged his prejudiced comments and has corrected it through openly disavowing that prejudice. For this I am truly grateful. It shows that he is a man of goodwill. That’s encouraging. However, personally, I'm ready to move onto to greener more pleasant pastures. It's a painfully boring topic. Frankly, I'd rather eat sawdust. Actually, I'm reticent even engaging in this discussion and the only reason I am is because if Steve made the comments in reference to another cultural/ national group I'd voice my concern and objection accordingly. The reality is he hasn't (as far as my memory goes) made savage remarks about any other group on this blog. We have the dubious honour of being the first. Is my ego bruised, you betcha. And so is my heart. But I'm over it. This momentary lapse of judgment was an unguarded moment all right. But that moment shouldn't define Steve. His more than that and Croatians are too. In fact, I think Steve should delete the entire last three posts including the apology. It sticks out like a sore thumb and there’s nothing in them that is worthwhile remembering. I wish the Church all the best. They're a talented bunch. They don't need to feign affection for anybody. But we all can live without the insults. Adios Amigos...have a great journey...drink lottsa spring water...and btw, who the fuck are Therapy?

You rockers and your controversies these days. SK expresses disenjoyment of the Balkans (huh) and Bryan Ferry expresses his appreciation (ill-advisedly) for a Riefenstahl aesthetic and therefore, by extension, must also embrace Nazi ideology. How does that work, exactly?

Steve did unapologetically tell all the meat eaters he hated them and to get off his blog. He said he was driven to do it by 'his ethics'. Most of the readers here are meat eaters and didn't go away. He didn't apologise but we still didn't go away. This is becoming a strange excercise in how far he can push this and get away with it. How long before he gets sued? Or some disgruntled fan belts him outside a show over opinions expressed here? He won't/can't censor himself and the slings and arrows are beginning to pile up.

Of course I'm not going to leave my name.

OK, I offer you job as lead role in new Croat movie called:
"Malo sam konfuzan, Dragana"

This film about cute New Zealand boy called Matt who travel to Croatia to visit world famous nude beaches but instead in countryside he fall in love with a beautiful, beautiful sheep called Dragana.

Big climax of movie is love scene in hotel in Dubrovnik when, to big horror, cute Matt find out his lovely sheep lover is not really 'Dragana'(girl) but in fact 'Dragan'(boy). Just then, police break down hotel door and arrest cute Matt for "animal love".

But in end of movie everything OK because New Zealand embassy in Zagreb get Matt out of jail by telling police it is normal for New Zealand man to oftentimes make some loving with sheep.

this movie will be big comedy hit in Croatia for sure !!!
you will be famous star and have household name here !!

Come on, Matt !
